Lights Of The Season

So I am a fan of Christmas, the lights, the food, the parties... The shopping.

As a fan, I find myself discovering new and different events that celebrate the season and showcase the various aspects.  Recently, I was invited to a couple of events that were charming and worth sharing.  There is a tacky lights tour of Richmond, where people board a bus and the bus travels the streets of Richmond highlighting the various gaudy displays of cheer for the season.  Unfortunately, the evening the tour was scheduled we had a snowstorm that basically cancelled the tour.

The next event I was invited to and actually attended, was the Stories in Lights, event at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  The gardens are in Henrico and the displays are amazing.  The night I attended there were carolers and a snow flurry to add just a touch of magic.  The lights fill the garden and there are various light displays that bring the stories of our youth right off the page.  The Giving Tree, Humpty Dumpty, The Tortoise and the Hare, are all charmingly depicted in brightly colored lights.  There is a fire pit where you can roast marshmellos for S'mores and the Hot Chocolate stand that serves delicious hot cocoa and gourmet coffees.

The magic of the season sometimes gets lost in the wrapping paper bundles, but a cold night where you can enjoy the ingenuity of what artists can depict with lights is worth the drive.  Family time, in warm coats, and sprinkles of wonderment is a night well spent.Image title
